If you like to drink from sundown to sunrise and still go to work without looking like shit, Jäger Bomb is your drink. Made using energy drinks Red Bull and Jägermeister. For those who don’t know about Jägermeister; it is a 70 proof digestif (alcoholic drink taken after a meal to aid in digestion). And no, even though the name spells with a “J”, it is pronounced as a “Y”. So it is ‘Jager’ as Yay-gur and “mesiter’ as my-stur. Why is it spelled that way? Ask the Germans who distilled it for the first time. The bottle doesn’t look any different than an old school cough syrup bottle. Some would call it trashy; whereas, others would fall in love with it. But no one would deny the old world charm of it.

For those of you, who have been running their brains in overdrive since reading the name; Yes, it is the same drink from the last year’s holly flick “Hangover”. But relax guys, not every bottle is spiked with roofies. So you can enjoy a drink without worrying about loosing a tooth or missing a wedding or finding a tiger in your bathroom. As soon as you open the bottle and take a sniff you would feel the sweet spice laden aroma registering in your brain. In fact, it doesn’t even really smell like a drink with 70 proof. The aroma is in extreme contrast to some of the other drinks I’ve tasted such as Whiskeys- Jack Daniels and Chivas (even a sniff would send your brain on a merry go round). The only way it was different than any other drink was how easily it slides down your throat owing to its thick and sugary texture.

Jägermeister has various drinking variations and combinations. One of my personal favorite is Jager Bombs. Now in a Jager Bomb, you are mixing alcohol and high amounts of caffeine. So if you are a person who is left jittery by 2 cups of coffee, I would suggest go a little easy on these. The ones who like to feel the blood rushing through their veins and enjoy the hype of caffeine, this is your drink. Either way, it is an interesting way to enjoy the night, with its dramatic preparation technique. You take a Pub Glass or a Tall filled with Red bull and fill another shot glass with Jägermeister. Now as soon as everyone has their two glasses in their hands, countdown,drop the shot glasses into the Red Bull glass and chug the concoction. The ones who are not too appreciative of the bitterness of alcoholic drinks, this will be an enjoyable experience because you can taste the alcohol but with a very sweet taste.

Party goers have developed another interesting way to mix Jager Bombs. Lining up the tall glasses filled with Red Bull close together and balancing the Jägermeister shots on their rims. As the first shot is knocked over the rim it starts a chain reaction knocking the next shot glass into the tall and then everyone picks up their glass and chugs. This is called a Jäger Train.

So next time you are at a party and bored of the usual Rum, Whiskey, Beer and Gin. Get your hands on a bottle of Jägermeister and some cans of Red Bull and off you go for a colorful night.
